Veteran Food Pantry Donation

A chance meeting resulted in the harvest and distribution of three hundred dozen ears of corn to the Allen County Veteran Food Pantry in Lima Ohio.

Founder of Angels for Veterans, Sandra Bohle had no idea that her chance meeting with Rob Hoehamer would result in a surprising gift.

A chance meeting resulted in the harvest and distribution of three hundred dozen ears of corn to the Allen County Veteran Food Pantry in Lima Ohio.

Ms. Bohle visited a local pharmacy. While standing at the pharmacy counter she heard a gentlemen explain that his daughter currently is serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Bohle introduced herself and explained that her nonprofit offers support and advocacy to veterans, active duty military, and military families. Bohle offered her business card to the gentleman and they parted ways.

It was only a few days later when Bohle received a phone call from Rob Hoehamer. He then reminded her of the recent encounter. Rob explained that he farms in the nearby community of Rockford Ohio. Rob stated that he wanted to donate some sweet corn to veterans. He just was not sure of how to best do that.

Bohle suggested the Allen County Veteran Food Pantry in Lima Ohio. Then she learned that the donation was for a whopping 300 dozen ears of sweet corn and that immediate help was needed to pick the corn. The harvest needed to happen in three days from the call. Bohle made some phone calls and learned that the Director of FFA (Future Farmers of America) was at Parkway High School in Rockford. Following that phone call, it was all set for one dozen students to be released from school for the grand harvest.

In the early morning sunlight everyone arrived at the Hoehamer farm to gather the sweet corn. Bohle noted the  amazing spirit of the students.  She noted that they were ready to help out a fellow neighbor without hesitation.  A testimony of the American way.

On hand were the students, WLIO and The Lima Newspaper. Bohle witnessed how community and organizations can come together for the good of our veterans. A story of good will, good people with good hearts.

Rob Hoehamer drove the sweet corn the following day to the food pantry in Lima. Volunteers were on hand to receive his gift.

Bohle points out that this food pantry serves at least 250 families on a regular basis. She encourages all of us to give what we can throughout the year to pantries and individuals in need.

Angels for Veterans applauds and the generosity of Rob Hoehamer, and thanks all those who volunteered in this effort.

This was a meeting of chance. Bohle says that there are no mistakes in the universe.
